Court sentence 36-year-old female trafficker to 7 years imprisonment


A federal high court sitting in Lagos has sentenced a 36-year-old trafficker, Motunrayo Balogun, to seven years imprisonment and a fine of N2 million on March 31, 2022.

She was sentenced on count 2 which is the offence of buying a human being and convicted on count 3 to 7 years imprisonment and a fine of #2,000,000.00 (2 Million Naira) on the count of Conspiracy.

Hon. Justice Faji presiding, in addition to the sentence, directed that the convict compensates her victims (names withheld) to the tune of 1,000 Dinars in Naira equivalent to the victim being money paid in the trade of prostitution by the victim; 2, 000 Dinars in Naira equivalent to the victim being the money the convict used in buying the victim and compensation of 2 Million Naira to the victim for psychological abuse meted on the victim. 

Motunrayo Balogun was arrested for trafficking and exploiting three victims (one female victim forced into sexual exploitation while two others were used for forced Labour) in Libya. She was reported to have been deported alongside four of her victims, from Libya where she was running a brothel popularly called a CONNECTION HOUSE.

Luck ran out on Motunrayo Balogun on May 11, 2017 when she was arrested, based on intelligence reports, at the Cargo terminal of Hajj Camp, Ikeja.
