Man arrested for threatening coup


Ghana police service has arrested a man, Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor, for threatening a coup if the E-levy bill is passed by parliament. 

A statement signed by director general, public affairs, DCOP Kwesi Ofori stated that Oliver was arrested by the Tema regional police command following a post he allegedly made on a social media platform to the effect that he would stage a coup himself if the E-levy bill is passed by parliament. 

The post contained a clear statement of intent with a possible will to execute a coup in his declaration of intent to subvert the constitution of Ghana. 

Oliver will be arraigned before court on Monday, February 14, 2022.

Also, the police called on the people  of Ghana to avoid making pronouncements that may lead to a breach of peace of the country as any such acts contravene the laws of the country.
