Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has taken part in the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, on February 12, 2022.
He stated that the purpose of the event is to put the state on a global platform in the area of sport, adding that every year, new records are broken and the marathon gets bigger and better.
Sanwo-Olu said the state government is fully committed to sustaining the initiative and leading the front to ensure that all participants, especially the youths, get the best from the event.
He commended Access Bank and all other sponsors for the work they have put in making the event a success, noting that the goal of the marathon is to use sport as a tool to promote physical fitness, togetherness and resilience as a means to living a fulfilling life.
Ethiopia’s runner, Ulfata Deresa won the prize as the first competitive athlete and became the winner of the marathon’s 7th edition in the male category.
Deputy governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat, Minister for Sport and Youth Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shuaibu, Lagos Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Shola Aiyepeku, and LSSC Director-General, Gafaar Bolowotan, among other top functionaries, also joined thousands who participated in the race.
