Court sentences two male traffickers to prison without option of fine


A federal high court sitting in Katsina has sentenced a 21-year-old man, Uzairu Murtala, to one year imprisonment with the option of fine. 

It was gathered that Murtala was sentenced on Tuesday, February 22, for an attempt to procure the illegal entry of one female victim through Babban Mutum border to Libya via Niger republic, an offence contrary to section 29 and punishable under section 26 (1) trafficking in persons act. 


In another development, a 35-year-old man, Taiye Idowu, was sentenced to four years imprisonment without option of fine.

He was sentenced for procuring two female victims from Kano to Maimujiya in Niger republic for prostitution and sexual exploitation contrary to section 16 (1) of the trafficking in persons act.
