Nollywood actress, Ini Edo has welcomed a daughter through surrogacy.
The actress confirmed the news in a interview with journalist and blogger, Stella Dimoko Korkus, where she speaks on why she took that path.
Ini said that although she welcomed her child through a surrogate mother, the eggs were hers'(Inis') making her the genetic mother.
She noted that she choose having the child through surrogacy because she wanted to become a mother, and still have good number of eggs frozen in case she decides to do surrogacy again or carry her child herself.
According to her, "I opted for a donor for me and my baby's peace of mind. Another major reason I opted for a donor is because it scares me so much when I see banter and controversies between a mother and a father over a baby in public forum or when I see the man insisting he wants his child if things don't work out between both parties. For me it's the fear of what that would mean for the child. Ideally, its marriage then children but we are not living in an ideal world.
"I am not someone who allows any situation to control me. I make lemonades out of lemons thrown my way and have no regrets. Life itself is so fragile and short to be striving for perfection. I am well and capable of taking care of my own child as I've been taking care of myself. I wanted a child and thank God for the options of surrogacy and donors."
Disclosing why she hadn't unveiled her child to the public, Ini Edo said she wasn't afraid of talking about her, and wanted to do so on her baby's first birthday but was prevented by mischief makers, who spoilt the story with lies.
She said the sad thing is that an innocent man is being dragged into something that he has absolutely nothing to do with.
She explained that the man being dragged as the father of the child, Kome, has been her friend for years and they are in no relationship whatsoever aside friendship, adding that Kome is a responsible family man and doesn't deserve to be dragged into her motherhood story.
"Anyone saying that he is the father of my daughter is a lie from the pit of hell," she said.
Speaking on how she feel being a mother, Ini Edo said that it is a awesome feeling and experience having to watch her daughter grow, and thankful to God to be a daughter's mother.
On recommending surrogacy to women trying to conceive naturally but finding it difficult, She said that she would.
She revealed to have had series of miscarriages in the past, which wasn't among her reason for going through surrogacy, maintaining that she hopes to carry babies in her womb in the future if God wills.
Ini explained that she had been reluctant flaunting her daughter on social media because she wishes to keep her child off the media.
When asked if she had plans to get married, Ini Edo said currently marriage isn't her priority, and she has been married before which didn't turn out to be a bed if roses.
She explained further that she isn't against it, but isn't crazy about the distractions and complications that comes with it.
On her last note, she said, "I'm in the phase of taking care of my child and focusing my positive energies on motherhood and my running businesses. This is all I have time for right now and shun all negative news or energy."
