Activist, Harrison Gwamnishu assaulted by police taskforce team in Delta state


Human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu has been assaulted by police Task-Force attached to Delta state ministry of environment.

He narrated that he was assaulted in the early hours of the morning, when he tried intervening into a street hawker who was being assaulted by the same Task-Force team. 

While pleading to the police to stop brutalizing the hawker and carry out their duty in the most civilized manner, Gwamnishu said one of the officers gave him a fist blow and started assaulting him. 

He further stated that one one inspectors Philip started that dragging that he is under arrest, which he resisted. 

According to him, while the inspector was dragging and abusing him. He almost lost his breath and had to remove his hoodie before a senior police officer attached to legislative quarters intervened and they freed him. 

The police also tried to seize the phone of a young man making a video, but was resisted. 

Gwamnishu stated that he had to call the state commissioner of police before he intervened.

He thanked everyone who stood with him and followed him to the police headquarters were he met the state commissioner of police.
