18-year-old secondary school girl allegedly poison her guardian in Ogun state


Police has arrested an 18-year-old secondary school student, Tope Fasanya, for allegedly attempting to kill her guardian one Mrs Esther Bada by poisoning her food. 

Tope was arrested by officers of the Ogun state police command following a complain by the Mrs Bada who reported that she was served by her maid and immediately after eating the food, she felt a sharp stomach pain and became very uncomfortable. 

According to spokes of the state command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, when the pain became too severe for the victim, she called the maid to come and eat the remaining food but she. This made her suspect foul play on the part of the maid. 

Upon the report, the victim was quickly taken to Owode Egba general hospital, from where she was referred to Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta for proper medical treatment, while the suspect was subsequently arrested. 

On interrogation, Tope confessed while at the homicide section of state criminal investigation and intelligence department that she added rat poison substance to the victim's food. 

It was also revealed that the suspect had been living with Mrs Bada since when she was in primary three, when Mrs Bada was her class teacher then. After the death of the suspect's father, Mrs Bada volunteered to help her by taking her to live in her house and from there going to school on her bill. 

DSP Oyeyemi said Mrs Bada had been sponsoring the suspect's education up till her present class 

When asked why she decided to kill her benefactor, the suspect who described the victim as a very caring person said that she only wanted to return to her mother and she can only do that if her gurdian is no more.

State commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole directed that the suspect be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.
