Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has stated that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) should stop their planned strike action after meeting with the stakeholders.
He stated that the Union and federal government needs to be mindful of the unintended consequences of strike actions, knowing how important education is to children and the future of the country.
According to the speaker, Whatever the issues, strikes can not continue to be a perennial exercise, strikes can not be the tool we use at all time but only when things finally break down.
He mentioned that during the meeting, he was able to make an agreement with the FG and ASUU agreeing on four major contending issues, advising government-not to go into agreements it can not honour.
Gbajabiamila appealed to all parties to avoid statements that will exacerbate matters.
