Lagos declares 3-days mourning over Ikoyi building collapse


Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has declared three days mourning over the Ikoyi building collapse, which occurred on Monday, 1st November, 2021.

Gbenga Omotoso, commissioner, information and strategy, disclosed in a statement that no fewer than 32 persons were believed to have died in the incident. 

The state government also ordered that all flags are to be flown at half-mast in public and private buildings and official engagements cancelled during the mourning period. 

Governor Sanwo-Olu, once again, commisserated with all those who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident.

He has visited the site thrice to encourage the rescuers and console relations of those who are believed to have been trapped in the collapsed building. 

The governor also visited the hospital where those who were rescued from the building are receiving treatment, and had sworn-in a six man panel of inquiry to find out why the went down and recommend measures to prevent such incidents.
