Niger state Governor Umaru Zulum has ordered mine armoured personnel carriers for police operations in Malam-Fatori.
The governor gave the order towards the restoration of civil authority by the Nigerian police in Malam-Fatori in the shores of Lake Chad.
He inspected the first batch of the three armoured police which has already been delivered, with more expected arrive. He carried out the inspection in company of Borno's commissioner of police, Abdu Umar.
Governor Zulum explained that though the state government has procured the vehicles, the Inspector General of Police approved the installation of arms and ammunition on them.
He noted that the armoured police carrier will enhance operations of the special police unit towards restoring civil authority in the region.
Earlier last month, Governor Zulum led residents and government officials to embark on clearance of Malam-Fatori to pave way for the reconstruction of public facilities and private homes towards safe and voluntary resettlement of residents.
