Enugu state Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has assured the woman, Mrs August Ifebuchechukwu Eze, whose 7-year-old son was allegedly killed by her husband, Chidi Onyishi, for money ritual that will not lack.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, Special adviser to the governor on information, Steve Oruruo stated that the state government will stand behind them to overcome the shock and prevent them from suffering.
He stated that the governor is saddened by the unfortunate incident, and condoles with the woman and her children and prayed for the repose of the deceased child's soul, stressing that the act perpetrated by the father of six (her husband) was “unimaginable and unthinkable by all standards".
While presenting Governor Ugwuanyi initial cash donation of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) to the family for interim upkeep, Oruruo stated that the Enugu state government will not allow the crime go unpunished, and would ensure that the family gets justice and overcome this challenge.
Responding, Mrs. Eze stated that she was speechless at the gesture of the governor, and thanked him for his compassion and benevolence.
She stated that she is still in shock over her son's sudden death.
