Air Peace debunks post that its Lagos-Johannesburg flight crash-landed

Management of Air Peace has debunked posts on social media that its Lagos-Johannesburg flight had crash-landed on Sunday, November 14, 2021.

Air Peace in a statement, stated that the aircraft didn't crash land, but due to sudden crosswind the flight crew had to land the aircraft firmer than usual.

The statement reads,

We have noticed a particular post on social media purporting that our Lagos-Johannesburg flight crash-landed on Sunday, November 14, 2021.

This is to set the records straight and correct the misinformation in the public domain.

The aircraft did not crash-land. But due to a sudden crosswind, the flight crew had to land the aircraft firmer than usual. A crosswind is the component of wind which blows across the runway and consequently makes landing and takeoff a little challenging as opposed to when the wind is straight down the runway.

This is an offshoot of weather and it happens sometimes. Thus, it is totally untrue to say the aircraft crash-landed. That same aircraft operated another flight back to Lagos on the same day. It is also unfair to say our crew did not apologize because they did. Our crew understand the sensitivity of such a situation and always do the needful.

The post alleging a 'crash landing' is not only a distasteful exaggeration but also unfounded, as crash-landing means to land an aircraft roughly under emergency conditions, usually with damage to the aircraft. That was not the case with our aircraft.

At Air Peace, safety is at the heart of our operations and we cannot compromise that.
