Nigerian army neutralises 3 gunmen in Anambra


The Nigerian Army (NA) has neutralised three unknown gunmen, who attacked a police checkpoint along Okija-Onitsha expressway, Anambra state, on October 7, 2021.

This was disclosed in a statement by director army public relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, stating that the gunmen were put down by Troops of Sector 5 Exercise GOLDEN DAWN deployed in the state, after they had engaged the gunmen in a gun duel. 

The NA disclosed that the gunmen, who drove in 2 vehicles (a Hilux and Hummer bus), eventually succumbed to the troops' firepower, while others fled with gunshot wounds (they are currently being searched for).

Items recovered include: one vehicle and two motorcycles. 

During the gun duel, a policeman was killed. 

Chief of Army Staff, Lit Gen Faruk Yahaya commended the troops for their efforts, urging them to sustain the momentum against criminal elements operating in the region. 

He also sympathised with the family of the policeman, and prays for the repose of his soul.
