Abia state government directs road users to avoid Emelogu bridge pending repairs

The Abia state government has directed motorists and other road users in Aba to avoid Emelogu bridge (popularly called Orji Uzor bridge) after its ministry of works had observed some fundamental engineering defects, which has rendered it unfit and unsafe for vehicular traffic.

A statement by commissioner for information, Chief John Kalu, disclosed that the state ministry of works has deployed some engineers and other experts to access the situation and come up with recommendations for immediate action.

The state government directed road users to avoid the bridge, pending the envisaged maintenance and realignment works to make it safe for public use once again

It therefore banned heavy duty trucks and other articulated vehicles from using the bridge pending completion of repair works to correct the observed defects.
