The United States (US) has presented the first of four oxygen plants to the government of Ghana, at the Ghana Infectious Disease Centre (GIDC) at Kwabenya in the Ga East Municipality, Accra.
The presentation was made by US ambassador to Ghana, H. E. Stephanie Sullivan, saying that the United States is taking adequate steps to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as save lives and strengthen Ghana's health systems.
The ambassador noted that the US government would also provide clinical and non-clinical technical assistance with the donation of the oxygen equipment to prepare health staff and biomedical engineers to ensure the long term use and maintenance of the equipment.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Health, head of biomedical engineering unit of the ministry, Dr Nicholas Adjabu hoped for more partnership with the US, and thanked the staff of the GIDC.
In addition to this donation, the US government will subsequently inaugurate three additional plants at Cape Coast Municipal Hospital, Kumasi South and Tamale West hospitals.
