Ghana police apologize to journalists for assault by suspected Glorious Word Power Ministries International church members

Ghana police has apologized to journalists that were prevented from entering the courtroom during the arraignment of the Head Pastor of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah and three others, on Monday, September 13, 2021.

Clintonsdaily had reported that the pastor along with three of his church members were arrested for assaulting police personnel and threat of violence, in the church premises.

The police in a statement signed by AG. Director-General, Public Affairs, Assistant commissioner of police, Kwesi Ofori, stating that there had been reports that some journalists were attacked and prevented from working at the court premises by some persons believed to be church members and supporters of the accused persons. 

The police stated that a team is studying the footage of the alleged assault to identify the alleged perpetrators for immediate prosecution

The police assured the journalists that they would be fully protected and allowed to do their work at all times including the subsequent coverage of the case. 

The police added that they will continue to do everything possible to deepen the cordial police-media relationship.
