18 environmental offenders sentenced to one week imprisonment in Lagos

18 environmental offenders has been sentenced to one week imprisonment, with an option of five thousand naira (N5,000) fine, by a Magistrate court, sitting in Oshodi, Isolo local government area, Lagos state. 

The offenders were arrested by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) for illegal dumping of waste and defacing of the environment. 

They were arrested at different locations in the state, such as Oyingbo, Ayobo, Abule Egba, Agege Isokoko, Ikeja and Ekoro Agbeleka, while committing the various offences.

One of the offenders was sentenced to three months imprisonment or a fine of N100,000, for open defecation. 

LAWMA stated its total commitment towards eradication of all forms of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state, urging residents to ensure that the keep the environment clean.
