Plateau killing: Governor Lalong imposes curfew on Jos north, Bassa and Jos south LG

Following the killing of commuters along Rukuba road, Jos north LGA, state Governor Bako Lalong has imposed curfew on Jos north, Bassa and Jos south local governments, which would commence 6pm to 6am, from Saturday, August 14, 2021.

The governor stated that the curfew will remain till further review by the state security council, urging members of the public to abide by the directive, so as to enable security personnel maintain law and order in the affect areas and deal with those attempting to foment trouble by taking advantage of the situation to perpetrate crime.

He said that the state government would continue to monitor the situation and take further measures to ensure the safety of lives and properties. 

Giving report on the attack, Governor Lalong explained that the reports indicate that 23 of those attacked lost their lives while 23 persons sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment. 26 others were rescued unhurt. So far, 20 suspects have been arrested and the security agencies are conducting investigations to get to the bottom of the matter.

He explained that the reason for the curfew, was due to concerns about the persisting tensions and reported attempts by some persons to take laws into their hands but threatening to attack individuals and private facilities, as well as public property. 

The governor sympathised with the families of those who lost their loved one, and those injured in the attack, calling for calm and appealing to citizens to avoid any action or utterances that will further inflame the situation. 

He added that the attack was a criminal conduct and shouldn't be given any ethnic or religious colouration, and called on people to be vigilant, security conscious and do everything possible to sustain peace and security in the state.
