IPOB: Abia state government says it is monitoring Nnamdi Kanu situation

The government of Abia state has stated that it is monitoring the situation with Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently in custody of the DSS.

This was disclosed in a statement by State Honourable commissioner for information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, stating that the state government are ensuring to see that Kanu fundamental human rights are being respected.

The state government noted that it remains in touch with his family members as well as other relevant persons, and regularly receive updates on the matter.

According to the statement, The Abia State Government is confident that the judiciary will ensure a free and manifestly fair trial for him and others as they remain innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

Speaking on the sit-at-home order by IPOB, the Commissioner noted that the state government will not compel any one to sit at home for any reason due to freedom of movement which is under the constitution of Nigeria.

He said that nobody should be compelled or enforcer to any sit at home order from any non state actors as doing so does not serve any known interests of the people of the state.

The honourable commissioner stressed that compelling children to stay away from school doesn't serve for progress, adding that traders at sitting at home at a time when they need to work hard to sustain their families will not serve any development interest.

He called on people of the state to go about their normal businesses without fear of molestation as adequate security have been provided to ensure their safety.
