Governor of Borno state, H. E. Umaru Zulum has received one of the over 200 abducted Chibok school girls, Ruth Ngladar Pogu, along with someone whom she claimed to have married during the captivity. Both of them had surrendered themselves to the Nigerian military on July 28, 2021, in Boma, but security and government officials under the governor's supervision kept the development secret and used the last 10 days to contact her parents in order to ascertain her identity. Malam Isa Gusau, spokesman to the governor, said that Ruth was received at the Government house in the presence of their parents who reunited with her. Governor Zulum said the reunion was a boost to keep the hopes of parents, other family members and state government alive in the optimism that all others, still in captivity, will be safely found and in good health. He stated that government in collaboration with Ruth and her parent, will undertake a rehabilitation and reintegration programme that will focus on her health, psychosocial wellbeing and her chosen path to a productive future, all of which will be determined by her. Furthermore, the governor commisserated with families of those still in captivity, urging them to remain optimistic, prayerful and cooperative with security agencies.
