Borno state Governor Umaru Zulum has provided the first batch of the displaced persons, who are indigenes of Marte, with livelihood support to enable them meet up their needs. The governor made the provision during a visit to Garade, a community in Marte local government area, which was one on of the Boko Haram insurgent strong hold liberated by the military and multinational joint taskforce. About 2,870 returnees from 500 households constitute the first batch to take shelter from the rehabilitated Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) quarters, after a request to the managing director by the governor during his earlier visit. The resident whom were mostly farmers, had each received a bag of rice and one bag of maize grit by their household heads. Governor Zulum discussed modalities for providing support to enhance dry season farming activities in order to strengthen livelihood capabilities of the returnees. He also visited a makeshift market established by the returnees, assuring them of his administration's support to boost their economic activities. During the visit, the governor held closed door meeting with the military commanders in which issues concerning security of the returnees were discussed.
