Osun state government has distributed chicks to no fewer than 100 livestock farmers, with each farmer taking 2,000 day-old chicks home. This is the first phase of the distribution, which also included feedmills, vaccines and drugs to help aid their production capacity. This was disclosed by chief press secretary to the governor, Ismail Omipidan, revealing that the initiative is anchored under the Osun Briolers Outgrowers Production Scheme (OBOPS-III), aimed to eliminate poverty and enhance production capacity of the livestock farmers in the State. The distribution was flagged off by state commissioner for agriculture and food security, Dayo Adewole, who was represented by the Director of Livestock Services, Osun Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Amos Daramola, stating that the initiative was designed to support farmers particularly the youth and women who could not afford to secure the chicks. He said that adequate vaccines, drugs and feed-mills that would be enough to last between five and six weeks had been put in place for distribution to beneficiary farmers. The commissioner stated that the scheme would go a long way to further attract and encourage the young ones to agriculture particularly livestock production, noting that state Governor Oyetola is committed to revamp the agricultural sector. He urged the beneficiaries of the scheme to avail themselves of the multifaceted advantages in the initiative.
