World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed an Ebola case has been discovered in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire. The organization disclosed that the case is the country's first case of Ebola since 1994, revealing that the patient had travelled to Cote d'Ivoire from Guinea by land and arrived in Abidjan on 12th August, 2021. WHO stated that patient has been admitted to a hospital after experiencing fever, and currently receiving treatment. It added that the Cote d'Ivoire case has no indication linked to the earlier outbreak in Guinea. The organization noted that further investigation and genomic sequencing will be carried out. It disclosed that the world body is assisting to coordinate cross-border Ebola response activities and procure vaccines from Guinea, adding that vaccines will be given to vaccinate people at high risk, including health workers, first responders and contacts. WHO urged countries to strengthen their preparedness for potential Ebola cases, as they focus on the COVID-19 response.
