The government of Akwa Ibom is in extreme delight as it's state football club, Akwa United becomes champions of the Nigerian football by winning the professional league of the 2020/2021 season. Akwa United beat visiting MFM FC, Lagos by 5 goals to 2 to emerge winners, with a match to spare. This was disclosed by the Media unit of government house, Uyo, stating that the champions' trophy and winners medals were presented by the Chairman of the Nigerian football league management committee, Shehu Dikko Also, the team had earlier won the federation cup, under the administration of State Governor Udom Emmanuel. The event was attended by the governor, who led top government officials including the Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey and other state House of Assembly Members , the state executive council members and members of extra ministerial departments, local government chairmen, as well as numerous other sports loving Akwa Ibomites
