The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has announced the shutting down of Ladipo Market, Mushin, for sundry and persistent environmental infractions, which they failed to redress despite several warnings from the authority. It stated that the market would remain shut till the traders turn a new leaf, by adhering to the environmental laws of the state, which was put to protect the environment and residents. LAWMA appealed to other markets and business centers in the state to shun indiscriminate dumping if refuse and other related environmental offences, noting that they would live no stone unturned in making sure defaluters are adequately penalised, to serve as deterrent to others. Also, it urged traders in various markets across the state, as well as residents, to support them in its efforts to rid the environment of waste pollution, adding that people should patronize assigned PSP operators and pay their waste bills promptly.
