Lagos state government has paid the sum of N364,982,210.39 to the first batch of dependants of deceased staff of the Local Government and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). The presentation was made by Commissioner for Local government and community affairs, Dr. Wale Ahmed, to 159 family members of late employees of LASUBEB and Local government service commission at an event held in Alausa, Ikeja. Dr. Ahmed, who was represented at the event by Permanent secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Kikelomo Sanyaolu, stated that the payment of the insurance benefits was one of the several welfare packages created by the state government for its workforce. While maintaining that the state government recognises civil servants as the engine room and drivers of all its policies, the commissioner urged the beneficiaries to ensure that they keep the dreams and visions of their loved ones alive by undertaking wise investments to cater for the dependants. Managing director of LASACO Assurance PLC, Rasaq Abiodun commended Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the consistent payment of insurance benefits, stating that it has helped in actualizing the aspirations of the families and dependants of the officials. He noted that LASACO has been paying the insurance premium benefits to the families of deceased LASUBEB staff since 2009 as a result of prompt payment of premium by the State government to LASACO. Chairman of SUBEB, Wahab Alawiye-king, who was represented by Adenike Odusanya, said that the presentation was to honour the departed souls, who had worked tirelessly to make Lagos state a better place for residents. He added that the presentation of the benefits was a demonstration of the state government's resolve to pay all entitlements and due to its staff.
