A man on twitter, Esan Oladimeji has recounted his experience of being a firefighter and the joy that comes with it. He said that he never wanted to be a firefighter, but thanks God for giving him the job because it involves saving lives and property. Telling us about the job, Oladimeji said that there is a Federal Fire Service (FFS) which is managed by the federal government and there is state fire services which is managed by the state government. According to him, "Federal Fire Service was initially in Lagos and Abuja only but later as a result of high rate of fire incidences across the country, FFS got extended to almost all the states in the country(to compliment the effort of the state fire services) with a good number of gallant and intelligent firefighters and at least a fire truck in each state for take off. "Even though water has been a great challenge, officers of FFS ensures their fire truck is filled with water after each fire fighting turn out. So anytime you see our fire truck parked at the station, it is water filled to brime." He stated that the maximum turn out time that firefighters leave fire station after emergency call is received is 3 mins, despite there being other factors that can cause delay such as: bad road, traffic, fire station, distance to the scenes, wrong or poor address description etc. Exam said that FFS nationwide has a toll free emergency number which is 112, and non toll free number which is 0803200355, even though all fire stations at state level have their individual emergency number. He adviced that the public get the fire service number closest to them.
