Governor Sani Bello commissions women health centre in Kontagora

Governor of Niger state, H. E. Sani Bello has commissioned a women health centre in Kontagora, saying that the establishment of the center has reduced the burden on the state government.


The center is established to provide health care services to women affected by Vesico Vegina Fistula (VVF), a disease that causes the uncontrolled passage of urine by women due to prolonged labor without access to professional healthcare service, will also avail patients the opportunity to learn skills before reintegrating them to their communities.




It was birthed by the wife of the state governor, Dr. Aminu Abubakar Bello through her Raise Foundation, with the support of Mainstream Foundation as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).


Commission the center, Governor Bello urged pregnant women to always go for antenatal and ensure they go to clinic or hospital for childbirth because doing so would help eradicate VVF in the state.




He hope that the center would soon be used as a general health facility because of the hope that with proper sensitization especially in rural areas, the people will go to either the primary health care or hospital to give birth.


Commending Raise Foundation and Mainstream Foundation, the governor have assurance that he would support the project and other similar projects put in place by private organisations.





Wife of the governor and founder of Raise Foundation, Dr. Aminu.explained that the project which was born out of her desire to take care of women affected by VVF, started the project in 2019 and was completed in November 2020.


While stating that the center has already treated 34 patients and are currently treating 21 patients, She said that a 20 bed patients hostel has been provided to help the patients recuperate as well as provide them with skills that will empower them and prepare them psychologically, emotionally and financially to assist them to continue with their lives easily before reintegrating them into the society.
