Custom uncovers container loaded with expired water

Lagos operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal command has uncovered a forty foot container load of expired water from Poland, which is valued at five million, four hundred and ninety three thousand, thirty three naira. 


Area Controller, Himma Swomen said that the container was reached following intelligence from customs headquarters, adding that the importation which is 16,920 units of 1.5 litre bottles, contravenced item number 11 of the common External Tarrif and import procedure as the bottled product were not labelled in English. 


He said that investigations have commenced in collaboration with NAFDAC and NDLEA to ascertain the true state of the water and be sure it is not linked with any narcotic snuggling. 


NCS disclosed that it had generated seven billion, nine hundred and sixty five thousand, nine hundred and seven naira as customs duty and other charges in the first quarter of 2021, surpassing the 5.8 billion made in the first quarter of 2020.


The Service disclosed that in the area of ant-ismuggling, the following items were seized in contravention with extant government laws and policies: two thousand six hundred and fifty five (2,655) pieces of used car tyres concealed with two (2) vehicles; two thousand seven hundred and seventy two (2,772) pieces of 5 liter kegs of vegetable oil; sixteen thousand nine hundred and twenty (16,920) bottles of 1.5 litre table water. 

 

It stated that all are with duty paid value of Fifty five million, seven hundred and thirty nine thousand, four hundred and thirty three naira (N55,739,433).
