Rauf Aregbesola condemns people exposing Nigerians aboard to undignified engagements

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has condemned people who expose Nigerians, especially, young girls to undignified engagements outside the shores of the country, calling on individuals to join in the fight. 


He stated that it is our duty to ensure that Nigerians, no matter where they are in the world are supported, so as to give them a sense of dignity and integrity. 


While promising the commitment of the ministry and relevant agencies in facilitating easy return of Nigerians facing challenges abroad, the minister stated that more opportunities should be given to youths through entrepreneurship development, which would give room for self-actualization. 


He also suggested the need for government to facilitate labour-exchange between Nigeria and other counties, opined that such will reduce the penchant for illegal migration. 


Aregbesola reiterated that a new passport processing regime which would commence on the 1st of June, 2021, with the timeline of six weeks to ensure that whoever holds Nigerian passport is a bona-fide citizen. 


He thanked President Buhari for appointing Abike Dabiri-Erewa to lead the Commission, adding that the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission should work with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in its efforts to managing migration. 


Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa thanked the minister and his team for introducing temporary passports for the return of Nigerians aboard and other commendable innovations which they introduced into the system. 


She stated that the Commission will continue to collaborate with relevant ministries, departments and agencies involved in migration, so as to restore the dignity if Nigerians abroad.
