The Lagos state team has won the Badminton event at the 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) tagged Edo 2020, thereby retaining it's title as the best badminton playing state in Nigeria. According to a statement issued by the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Sola Aiyepeku, Lagos attained the highest number of gold medals to beat Delta and Edo in the event. He stated that players, Anuoluwapo Opeyori and Godwin Olofua got the state dominating in the the men's team, singles and doubles events, which fetched the state win three gold and one silver medals. He said Opeyori claimed gold in the singles after defeating Olofua in the finals, while the duo paired to win the doubles event, adding that Opeyori and Olofua were also part of the men's team that claimed the gold medal. However, the women's Badminton event was won by Delta through the former Lagos' althlete, Yemisi Olatunji. The chairman stated that the State gold medalist in the Taekwondo event, Abdulateef Arinola, dedicated his achievement to the coaches and officials for their support and encouragement to members of the Lagos team at the festival.
