Governor Sanwo-Olu flags off 'Rail Mass Transit' project

Governor of Lagos state, H. E. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has flagged off the commencement of the construction of the 37km Red Line Rail Mass Transit project, which traverse from Agbado to Marina, moving more than one million commuters daily. 


Explaining the project, he said it would be in 3 phases, the first phase (Agbado-Iddo)will be completed in 24 months and will share the FG’s Lagos-Ibadan track up to Ebute Metta. It will run on its dedicated track from there to Oyingbo and reduce travel time from 2.5 hours to 35 minutes.


He said, 

"The Red Line project is to raise mass transportation capacity in the state while complementing the Blue Line that will move from Okokomaiko to Marina. The Blue Line is presently at 78% completion stage. I also handed out cheques as compensation to property owners affected by the right-of-way as this project is an initiative to deliver enduring infrastructure and make Lagos a competitive mega city."


Sanwo-Olu stated that his administration is committed to achieving the objectives of transportation and traffic management in its development agenda, disclosing that the start of the construction for the standard gauge Red line is a demonstration. 


He stressed that his administration is happy to be committing to the investment so people can meet their daily targets and aspirations.
