Following the recent unrest between farmers and herders in the nation, Governor of Niger state, H. E. Abubakar Sani Bello has decided to implement some innovations and ideas that will bring a long lasting solution to the challenge.
One of such step is the resuscitation of Bobi Grazing Reserve, which is a 45,000 hectares of land earmarked to address the Farmers/Herders crisis in Nigeria.
With this initiative, the state governor is set to achieve two things: to eliminate the insecurity issues that has clogged the wheel of development in the Nation; and to make it a profit making venture that will bring about mutual benefits to all parties involved.
This initiative is in collaboration with Central Bank of Nigeria, and some companies like Chi Vita, Friesland Campina WAMCO PLC, a Dutch firm that is working on 10,000 hectares. These companies are to commence milk production within the grazing reserve ,which will result in the need to not import the products into the country, thereby making Niger state a model in milk production.
Also, the grazing initiative will ensure food security in the country thereby addressing the needless insecurity in the nation. The project when completed will increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) significantly and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
