Nigeria labour movement is dead - Governor Wike

Governor of river state, H. E. Nyesom Wike has described the labour movement in the country as being dead because it has lost its force of engagement with government and can hardly achieve anything good for the generality of the workforce and Nigerians.

He stated that the leadership in labour has left substance to pursue shadows and hardly can speak in a manner that can change or achieve reversal of the many anti-people policies being implemented by the All Progressive Congress (APC) led federal government.

According to him,

It is unfortunate that labour has abandoned their role in this country. You are chasing things that are personal to you.  All over the world, when government is not going the right way, it is labour that comes out to say we cannot allow it.

However, he stated that the labour movement had been successful under the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan. Unlike what is happening now - there is increase in fuel pump price, insecurity, and increase of electricity tariff.

Furthermore, he questioned the services of Labour, Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress  (NLC), stating that the only thing he hears is minimum wage.
