Governor of Lagos state, H. E. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended the Tolaram Group on accomplishment that commercial operators at the Lekki Deep Seaport in Lekki FT Zone will begin by the first quarter of 2023. Expressing his happiness, he commended all stakeholders that are part of the project for the level of work that they have put to ensure that it is accomplished. He said, "t is more gratifying that we are taking up this assignment with all the energy required and we can all see what can be achieved when we work together." Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that on completion, the port will have the capacity to berth 18,000 TEU vessels and will significantly reduce the cost of container transportation from any part of the world. According to him, "I am convinced that the delivery of this project will transform the commercial architecture of West Africa and bring about a quick turnaround in the maritime sector." He stated that Lagosians will be the beneficiaries of this project as the seaport is expected to generate 170,000 direct and indirect job opportunities for residents and serve as an alternative in an effort to decongest the federal government owned seaports in Apapa.
