Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commiserates with family of late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, describing him as an icon of public service.
He said,
I was at the residence of late elder statesman and first civilian Governor of Lagos state, Alhaji Lateef Jakande to commiserate with his widow Mrs Abimbola Jakande, his children and other family members on the passing away of our icon of public service.
Gov. Sanwo-Olu stated that his achievements will remain touchstones for generations to come, and can only learn from his worthy example and commit ourselves to dutifully serving the people.
According to him,
Baba's landmark achievements as governor of this state in education, health, housing, urban renewal and infrastructure will remain touchstones for generations to come. We can only learn from his worthy example and commit ourselves to dutifully serving our people.
Late Alhaji Lateef Jakande passed on 11 february, 2021 in Lagos. He was the first civilian Governor of Lagos state, serving from 1979 to 1983, and later Minister of Works under Sani Abacha regime (1993 - 1998).
