Respect is the admiration you have for someone because of certain qualities they possess, such as: in what they do, way they handle things, knowledge or skills. It as an act of not behaving rudely to someone or something. It is an act that is reciprocal, when someone respects you, they expect you to show them the same kind of respect. When respect is not reciprocated, it becomes lost and hard to find.
There is no limit of age for whom can be respected, everyone should be shown an equal amount of respect. Respect is not based on the age difference; as long as the child respects the elder, the elder should respect both the child and himself in return. An elder who has respect for himself, would surely know how to behave and respect others.
How respect can be generated
- When you are content with yourself and do not compare, you will be respected
- When you do not lose the confidence/trust of your fellow
- When you are peaceful, obedient and obey the law
- When you respect yourself as well as your effort; self respect leads to self displicine
- When you listen to what others have to say, not talk against their back, and not judge others.
- When you are respected for being kind and not out of fear.
- When you don't undermine people
- When you are modest, respectful to others and try to understand
Respect for ourselves guide our moral, whole respect for others guide our manners.
