Our progress requires more of intercession than encouragement

OPINION BY MASTERPIECE DAVID OLAWADE

”No man can do me a truer kindness in this world than to pray for me”- C.H Spurgeon.

”Pray for us. We have no doubts about what we’re doing or why, but it’s hard going and we need your prayers. All we care about is living well before God”- Hebrews 13:18, Message Version.

Sometimes, we join faith with men for God to turn their situations around when our own situations seem unturned. Sometimes, we do all that is in our power to do to make things go right, but we find ourselves in situations that are contrary to our desires.

We have seen men leverage on what we know to triumph in specific areas of their lives when it seems as though what we know can’t get us personally out of our mess.

”Dear brothers and sisters, I urge you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me. Do this because of your love for me, given to you by the Holy Spirit”- Romans 15:30, New Living Translation.

We may appear to be strong, but we are conscious that we are only helped by God at every moment when we needed strength. We are not better than those around us, we are only privileged by grace.

Don’t be deceived by how we appear, doing well is not always the same as living well and knowing what to do isn’t the same as doing what you know.

I have told folks over time that I don’t really need encouragement to be the wonder God has made me (there are things I have seen and I’m trying to know that keeps me going) but I need intercessions to keep being it.

Jesus spent more hours to pray for His disciples prior His arrest than speaking words of encouragement alone. A whole chapter was dedicated to His intercessions for His disciples, and we that came into the picture as well (John 17).

He used same strategy for Peter after His knowledge that the devil was coming after him even when Peter was not aware (Luke 22:31-32). Jesus didn’t just do counseling session for Peter as regards what awaits him neither did He just give him words of encouragement, He prayed for him.

Apostle Paul knew that encouragement wasn’t enough to keep his converts that were scattered abroad as he said he didn’t cease to mention them in prayers (Ephesians 1:6, 1 Thess. 1:2).

I tell my mentors to always put me in their prayers time after time. As a mentor, this should be part of your responsibilities, there are some things about your mentees that counseling alone can’t suffice for, you need to intentionally take out time to pray for them.

As a parent, there are things that following up your children and being strict with them can’t change, you have to change them to God’s template for their lives and align them to God’s will on your knees.

As one in a relationship or marriage, there are things about your spouse or spouse to be that marriage seminars or books can’t influence, you need to stand in gap in your prayer altar for him or her.

These folks may not need to tell you their situations neither do you need to be aware of them, you can watch in prayers for them as prayer reveals.

We are all edging closer to our anticipated desires if we keep doing the necessary, progress cycles in the realm of the spirit are about to be complete as they come with more challenges, they would require deep heart-felt intercessions. You can’t do this alone.

”Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you”- 2 Thessalonians 3:1

I say again if you love us, pray for us. Can someone take a moment to intercede for those around him or her?

Happy Sunday Fam.
